Turkish Steps/Enna

By on

Cloudy so decided to move on. First we walked down the steep steps onto the beach where we had a good view of the Turkish Steps. The Scala del Turchi are carved into the stunningly white marle stone cliffs framed by a dazzling blue sea. Centuries of wind and rain have carved a natural staircase and it is said that Saracen Pirates once climbed them to raid local villages. Next we headed inland towards Enna at 3,041ft Sicilys highest town. We stopped on rout to visit Lake Pergusa and Sicilys only motor racing circuit but no birds and no racing! A tortuous narrow hairpin climb took us p to Enna through narrow cobbled streets to a parking place at Castle Castello Di Lombardi one of the largest in Sicily. We climbed the 80 steps up the Torre Pisano for a panoramic view of the countryside.
