Pozzallo

By on

We left Noto travelling along very minor roads towards Pachino the SE province of Sicily. This area is unspoilt by mass tourism and is mainly flat agricultural land with crops and lots of plastic tunnels as in Spain. It also has some of the best beaches with sweeping golden sandy bays, some with sand dunes, Small villages and harbours. Arthur was particularly keen to visit this area as he has a book written by Alan Whicker which tells about his experiences in 1943 landing on Pachino Beach as part of the Allied forces invasion of Sicily/Italy against the Axis (Italian Germans). We stopped at Cap Passero the lighthouse is now a Hotel! After another drive through a nature reserve area we reached Pozzallo a seaside town and Port with ferries to Malta. We found a nice sosta for 15e overlooking the beach. Sunny but windy.
