baltic wharf

After a wet weekend in Derbyshire marshaling on the MCC Edinburgh Classic Car Trial we booked into one of our favourite sites the CAMC site at Baltic Wharf Bristol. We were lucky to get a pitch overlooking the famous floating harbour so had the pleasure of sitting in the van watching the various water based activities taking place. Sailing, Paddle Boarding, canoeing and rowing as well as the usual ferries and site seeing craft ploughing up and down. whilst there we took advantage of the now warm and sunny weather to make 3 bike rides. The first took us to Ashton Court Park resplendent in Autumn colours, across the Avon Suspension Bridge (ok if you have a head for hights!)for lunch and back again through the park stopping to admire the beautiful herd of deer and a wander around the House Gardens. The house is no longer open to the public and in need of restoration. It is here that the famous Bristol Balloon Fiesta is held in August sadly cancelled this year due to Covid. Our next ride took us through the busy streets of Bristol (on a cycle lane) to the start of the Bristol to Bath railway cycle track) its not particularly scenic and very busy with walkers, cyclists and nowadays motorised scooters and skateboards. But it is an easy ride with no hills and a good surface. we made it as far as    where we ate our packed lunch before heading back to camp. Our final ride is one of our favourites from the site we pick up the River Avon Trail which takes us alongside the river, under the suspension bridge, as far as Pill. The trail can be a bit muddy and wet in places and there are a few climbs. However its very scenic. Then over the River Avon Road Bridge, quite an experience with all the road traffic whizzing by towards us (we are on the cycle lane), before stopping for our packed lunch.       We then continued on along The Portway back to the campsite very busy and noisy with heavy traffic. Have decided not to do that again will go back the way we came!
