Morwenstow

By on

Cloudy and raining today! Decided to still go as planned to Morwenstow to visit Church and Hawkers Hut situated on the cliffs overlooking cliffs and rocky shoreline. We first made a detour to Duckpool a rocky Cove in a steep sided valley. Would be lovely on a sunny day. At Morwenstow there is a very nice cafe and lovely old pub but we headed for the old church. Inside there were a series of patchwork pictures depicting village life and of Reverend Robert John Hawker the Poet and writer. Afterwards we walked in the rain to his Hut where he used to sit and write his poetry. Also from here he recovered more than 50 bodies from the many wrecks on this tortuous coastline, burying them in the church graveyard. We hope to return to this beautiful place in good weather!
