Cape Cornwall

Thursday 13th Beautiful morning. Set off to drive the scenic North Cornwall Coast Road towards Cape Cornwall. Stopped at Hells Mouth a sheer drop looking down into a small Cove with nesting birds and a very rough sea. Stopped for a coffee overlooking a very long sandy beach lots of surfers and kite surfers. Then a scenic drive through open moorland to Pendeen Lighthouse perched on edge of cliffs where we sat in the sun to eat pasties for lunch. Passing by Givor Tin Mine which is possible to visit when covid free we turned off along a rough track to visit the old interesting and much photographed Botallack Mine. Botallack was a submarine mine with tunnels extending under the sea, in paces for half a mile. This area was where much of Poldark was filmed. It is a spectacular site perched on the cliff edge and hard to imagine how people worked and lived here. We walked down to the bottom mine before leaving to head for Cape Cornwall. There we stopped in the carpark before tackling the steep climb up to the watch tower on top of the mound the paths lined with wild flowers and once at the top wonderful coastal views towards Lands End. Back down to carpark before heading back to the campsite. A long but interesting day.
