Wednesday 21st Mount Edgecombe and Anthony NT

By on

Another beautiful morning as we set off to visit Mount Edgecombe Historic Country Park. Following our favourite coastal route we stopped for a coffee in the hamlet of Freathy where there are some interesting cliff side  little chalets all neatly preserved with only basic facilities.  The original chalets on Tregonhawk cliffs were used by fishermen in the 1930’s, they are now owned by a management trust.

Rame Head in the Distance

We were not able to visit Mount Edgecombe House but enjoyed walking around some of the 885 acres of parkland, overlooking Plymouth Sound and the River Tamar. The  Orangery  was open for outside eating but as we had a packed lunch with us we sat on seats  in the Formal Garden looking directly over  Plymouth Sound. It was a scene of great activity with boats ploughing through the choppy waters of the Sound.

After lunch we made our way to NT Anthony House driving alongside Milford Lake and past HMS Raliegh  we arrived at the entrance gates behind a vintage car a 1920’s Crossliegh which we followed along the tree lined drive to the House. Again unable to visit the House due to COVID restrictions but we enjoyed walking around the beautiful gardens stopping to admire the majestic trees and lovely spring flowers. We will definately be visiting again as soon as restrictions are lifted. Its such a beautiful place.

This was our last day visiting this “forgotten corner” of Cornwall we had really enjoyed travelling around this unspoilt area. We will return!
