Bowfield Farm

By on

The sun was shining as we set off for the days drive. Passing through Barnard Castle we made our way to our first Hill at Crawleyside a sharp steep climb out of the village on to open moorland. Now in the North Pennines with different scenery of heather clad grouse moors and a patchwork landscape blackened from swaling . Few sheep,  very desolate, curlews calling and grouse with their chicks. No dogs allowed on these moors. Made a detour to Waskerley Reservoir for lunch before heading across Wearsdale towards St Johns Chapel to drive Chapel Fell the highest paved road at 2,060ft in England. It was a long and winding road to the summit but we made it! Then a pleasant drive back to camp.
