Chedworth Roman Villa

By on

Thursday 12th August last day at Greystones Farm. We have a booking to visit NT Chedworth Roman Villa one of the finest villas in Britain. Chesworth dates back to the 4th century and was a large and luxurious country house with underground heating and two bath houses. Rediscovered in 1864 by Lord Eldon on his estate. The estate was sold in the 1920s and the villa was bought for the nation through public donation. We spent a couple of hours learning how wealthy Romans lived including seeing mosaics and remains of the bath houses before heading back to campsite along minor roads through pretty villages and fields of golden corn.
