Bedruthen Steps

Wednesday 12th April

Raining! Ever optomistic we left camp me driving Arthur navigating to take minor roads to Bedruthen Steps. The narrow country lanes were banked with beautiful wild bluebells, garlic and yellow cowslips. We first stopped at the delightful hamlet of Holywell hoping to walk to Penhale headland but heavy rain prevented this. We drove on through Newquay overlooking the vast watergate Bay Beach very popular with surfers to the NT carpark at Bedruthen Steps. After another in car picnic the rain eased off so walked along cliffs to the beach. About 70 years ago I visited here with my Mum Dad and Brother whilst staying in Newquay for our annual 2 weeks holiday! Unfortunately we couldn’t go down to the beach as steps damaged by storms. So many happy memories 😊we then drove back to Holywell as now sunny and enjoyed a walk along the beautiful sandy beach backed by high sand dunes.
