Wroxham Rally 1-7 August 2005

Wroxham Rally August 1st — 7th

Monday 1st August and another long drive for us from Devon to Norfolk  this time to attend the Wroxham Rally organised and run by Phil and Pauline. However it was well worth it as a superb rally was in store for us.

Over 40 vans attended this rally which was held on a School Playing field, and  included use of their facilities including the school hall where we all met in the evenings for various ‘do’s’ including a lot of ‘Norfolk Squit’ from Phil! (Tales told in a Norfolk accent).

Today some of us boarded the little train on the Bure Valley Railway which runs from Wroxham to Aylsham. It was quite an interesting ride if somewhat bumpy!

Wednesday and we all boarded two coaches, owned by our hosts, to take us on a tour of North Norfolk. First we visit Cromer a delightful old fashioned seaside town with an end of pier theatre (We visited here again in 2011 for the Christmas Rally and went to the “End of Pier” Christmas Show) . We enjoyed a Cromer Crab lunch with Janet and John. Then on to Sheringham which was holding its Carnival. The town was alive with a great Carnival atmosphere. That together with the constant banter from Phil, Pauline and son-in-law Simon made for an extremely fun outing. I think a quiet evening was on the cards for most.

Thursday, my birthday and one other! so we first celebrated with Fizz and strawberries outside our van, and then a group of us went for lunch at a nearby restaurant which turned out to be extremely eventful. (I wont go into detail). Then in the evening we all boarded a riverboat that took us on a three hour cruise around the Broads entertained by a jazz band. Perfect end to an interesting birthday!

Friday was Pilote Pentathlon Day, a number of devious games organised by Phil followed by a Fish and Chip supper in the schools dining room.

Saturday and most of us wandered into Wroxham to sample the delights that ROY’S had on offer. If you’ve never been then its worth a visit -just for the experience. In the evening an American Supper with a wonderful spread of food was organised followed by great entertainment from a local entertainer telling jokes that we all understood and songs that we all remembered. Phil presented the prizes to the winners of the Pentathlon and Sheila organised a raffle to her usual high standard. The evening was a splendid finale to a fantastic rally. Huge thanks to Phil, Pauline and helpers.

My best memory on this rally has got be the “Norfolk Squit”
