Corfu Mountain

On Monday we hired a Hyundai i10 for the day so we could explore on our own the North West Coast and mountain area. Setting off from the campsite we drove along the coastal road and took the very narrow steep hairpin road down to the tiny beach of Agni. This was where a scene from the Durrels was filmed of Margo sunbathing and talking to her Greek priest friend. Unfortunately the weather had turned cloudy so photos not so good. We carried on to our next Durrell location and this was at the small resort of Kalami. Laurence Durrell lived here at the White House. It is now an apartment and restaurant. We had a coffee there before driving on to our lunch stop at a beautiful deserted bay at Avlaki where we had a picnic lunch. Then the clouds cleared and the sun came out so we decided to head for Monti Pantokrator at 3,300ft the highest point in Corfu. We had an exciting drive up the mountain the road is only suitable for small cars very steep rough hairpin bends. At the top there is an old monastery but now surrounded by radio and communications masts. The mist was swirling around on the top but managed to get a couple of photos. Then back to camp for our evening final group dinner in our camp restaurant. We had an excellent meal accompanied by Greek music.
