Ioannia

By on

Today we decided to walk the 1mile back into Ioannia to visit the old Town and Turkish Area. We entered through the old Citadel gate made our up towards the Aslan Pasha Mosque which since 1933 has been turned into a Municipal Museum. We first stopped at an interesting little Turkish shop with a narrow entrance leading into something resembling Aladdins Cave! The friendly shop owner gave us the history of his shop after we had purchased a pretty handpainted bowl. We then explored around the crumbling Mosque area and visited the interesting Museum. We then walked through twisty narrow cobbled streets to the Fetiyie Mosque and Bazantine Museums which was constructed in 1958 as a Greek Royal Manor House. Also the tombĀ  where Ali Pasha is buried. After all this sightseeing we couldn’t face the walk back so took a taxi! A History day.
