Yesterday we left Meteora driving first on a very scenic but at times  cloud covered mountain roads then on to a toll road which passed through many tunnels and over some high viaducts to our next campsite on the shores of Lake Pamvotis at Ionnina. Today our group took a ferry out to a small island of Nisi. Lake Pamvotis is one of the oldest natural lakes in Europe and is located at the foot of Mt Mitsikeli. This highly protected area is home to many endangered species of faun and flora. We walked all around the island and we spotted many grebes some carrying their stripey babies on their backs pygmy cormorants and the European pelican which are very rare. The little village on the island depends mainly on fishing and tourism, today our group were the only people there. There are a number of traditional tourist shops and attractive restaurants  The little museum portrays an interesting history of the island life. We had a delicious fish lunch before heading back to camp.
