Days out in the MGTC

   |    |  No comments

With the recent fine weather and the relaxing of lockdown we have been able to take the MG out for a couple of drives over Dartmoor. On the first day out we travelled to Holne Chase, Venford Reservoir, Huccaby and across the open moor to Whiteworks where we stopped for a picnic lunch. Views from here include Childe’s Tomb which has an interesting history. Home was via Two Bridges, the Warren Inn, usually busy with visitors, but now deserted due to lockdown and on through Moretonhampstead. A very scenic open moor drive.

Second drive was to the Teign Valley and the Hennock reservoirs mostly along foxglove/wildflower  lined lanes. Stopped near Grimspound for lunch and back through Widdecombe in the Moor and Haytor.

Our latest drive was to the coast. We drove to Kingswear and took the higher Ferry to Dartmouth. We sat on the quay enjoying the views of the marina and estuary whilst having our picnic lunch. We then drove along the scenic road towards Slapton Sands passing by Blackpool Sands busy but not crowded (its a private beach and a charge) with people enjoying the beautiful weather. Along Slapton to Torcross where we parked in the carpark near to the WW2 Sherman Tank Memorial. Then returned to Dartmouth taking  the lower ferry to Kinswear and back home. A lovely coastal drive.
